How to Prepare Yourself Mentally for your Branding Photoshoot

You’ve booked your Branding Photoshoot, yay! We’ve had a chat, things are all prepared, and yet you feel strangely nervous?

It happens.

Standing in front of a camera isn’t something that most of us are used to in our regular lives, especially on our own, without a group of friends or family surrounding us taking away some of the attention.

I will help you with being confident and relaxed in front of the camera and capturing you to the fullest. And as much as you know that, it can still feel pretty intimidating, right? So here are some top tips of how to prepare yourself mentally for your photoshoot.

Get a Good Nights Sleep

Easier said than done at times (especially if you have small children or a puppy to keep you awake!) but getting a full nights sleep will do wonders for your energy levels, happiness and your skin. If you’re having trouble dropping off I really like the sleep casts from Headspace or you can find white noise apps in the app store as well.

Eat Breakfast

Standing in front of the camera can be harder work than people think, so make sure you’ve had your usual breakfast so you’re full of energy and aren’t going to start flagging part way through. If you’ve got the time, do some yoga, meditation or a workout. Whatever makes you feel calm and grounded. I love doing some breathing exercises through my Fitbit, it always makes me feel better.

Play Some of Your Favourite Music

Music is a powerful tool, if we’re able to have music playing whilst I shoot then definitely stick on a good playlist and we’ll have a boogie', but if we’re shooting in a café, bar or other indoor places with other people around this isn’t always possible, so on the way make sure you listen to your favourite pump-it-up playlist. You’ll feel energised, powerful and ready to take on the world (or your photo shoot anyway)!

Meditate / do some breathing exercises

I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I can honestly say that doing some regular breathing exercises has really helped me relief stress and nerves every time. I actually do the breathing / meditation exercises a lot on the tube. Better than staring at your phone to avoid awkward eye contact.

GET ALL YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW

I talked about getting organised for your photoshoot in another blog post already, but it’s still worth mentioning here. Having planned your outfits & props in good time as well as checking your journey and arriving early to enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of bubbly (just one though! ;)) will help calm your nerves and make you feel prepared and confident.

Trust the Process

I am 100% on your side, and going to work my magic to make sure your best bits are all highlighted by the camera, even if you don’t normally like selfies you take of yourself, experience over the years has shown me that my clients love the photos I help create for them and I’m sure so will you!
